A Reflection of True Love - Part 2
One of my favorite Super Bowl commercials was the one for E-Trade. (My top favorite was the Killer Dog from Doritos but I just couldn’t work that one in). At the end of the commercial you see one of the E-Trade Babies friends in the Hospital Nursery. When he is asked what he is doing there he responds, “Speed Dating.”
The more I think about it, I see how some folks have this kind of
relationship with Jesus… speed dating.
Let me explain it this way, we come to Christ and are justified and receive the Holy Spirit. But then we have a lifetime of Sanctification (growing more like Jesus). And since the
conversion and justification happens at amazing speed, we think sanctification should also happen that fast. And when we don’t see noticeable change and transformation, we
begin to doubt the saving power of Jesus in our lives. So we end up “speed dating” Jesus.
But 1 John 3 tells us a different story. We are in the process of sanctification. That means that God is transforming us to be his reflection of true love to a lost a dying world.
This Sunday, we will look at the second and third gifts that Jesus gives us to help make the transformation process easier and keep us from being a speed dating disaster in our faith!
See You Sunday!
David
